Liposuction

Liposuction is the name of the procedure of removing excess fat from the body by vacuum force. Different blunt tipped cannulas connected to a powerful suction machine are used for this purpose. Cannula is inserted into the localized fat area through small skin cuts and fat tissue sucked out into a jar. This procedure also called as SAL (Suction Assisted Lipoplasty). The fat tissue may be destroyed by ultrasound waves and then sucked away. The name of this procedure is UAL (Ultrasound Assisted Lipoplasty). If the fat tissue is destroyed by laser energy and then sucked out it is called LAL (Laser Assisted Lipoplasty). Although the devices are different an experienced plastic surgeon can get the same successful results with any of these techniques.

One important point is liposuction is not a procedure for losing weight. It is not a treatment form of obesity. It is useful for removing localized fat deposits. It helps to shape the body silhouette to a nicer appearance. It is a safe operation in experienced hands.

Liposuction is useful for back, waist, abdomen, buttock, thigh, knee, arm areas and some parts of the face and neck. It is effective and leaves minimal scars. However it is a serious operation especially if removed fat exceeds 1.5 liters and should be done in full facility clinic or hospitals. In most countries only board certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons are eligible to perform this procedure.
