Facelift (Rhytidectomy)

Facelift (Rhytidectomy): Stretching the facial skin for a more youthful facial appearance is a well known procedure. In classical facelift operation facial skin is elevated from underlying tissues and after removing the excess parts it is sutured back. There are very variations of this operation in terms of dealing with deep tissues (like SMAS and platysma) and extent of skin undermining. This technique still gives the best results but it is a major operation and should be done in a hospital under anesthesia.

Lifting without skin cut: Recently less invasive techniques are introduced. Barbed sutures are being used for lifting the cheek and brows. Although their applications are easy and can be done in outpatient facilities their effectiveness are controversial. Cheek, brow and neck area can also be lifted by ordinary surgical sutures under local anesthesia. The effect is pretty good at the beginning but it diminishes within months or years.
